![]() Here I'm trying to get Joseph to pull me however he doesn't get the fact that even though he feels the constrant of the breast collar he can still go forward. After a few days and getting him a little better I may wait till next year to really work on it, just so I can firm up all the other training. This is your new blog post. Next for Joseph was when I decided to teach him to drive shortly after riding him. He did great on his first day going down the road but of course I didn't hook him up to anything, I just trailed behind him. I also rode him over to the neighbor's when they got their mule team out to let Joseph see a team pulled wagon. He hardly looked at it. some horses are really upset by team pulled wagons especially mules. He was perfect until I tried to go home. He didn't want to leave that wagon but he finally did. The year 2009 11/10/2009
This year was not as exciting however it was just as busy. I roped calves this spring, and rode Bethany in two parades. In June I bought me two more Nez Pierce horses. One I found a home for right away (that one was Bethany's half-brother as well as the other horse's half-brother, but he was white and blue-eyed and I only took him because the lady I got him from made me take him). The other horse, Joseph, I kept and have plans to make him a roping and parade horse as well as a trick horse if possible. Joe, is a buttermilk buckskin with a blaze and three socks. I recently got to work him and I'm riding him now and I think he just may work out. We'll see ether this winter or next spring. The year 2008 11/10/2009
I had decided to do 4H with my horse, Bethany. We did very well in our practices. I also roped for my first time on Bethany. That was fun. I joke about it saying 'My horse knows how to rope better than I do.' She'd follow the calves but I couldn't seem to get their heads in the loop. Oh well, we had helpers on the ground to rope them and then us riders would drag them to the fire. Two days before the show, Bethany came up lame in her hind foot, I took Pixi instead. Even though I knew I couldn't place (because I brought the wrong horse), I thought it would be a good chance to get Pixi out and fun for me. This horse had never been hauled anywhere, never been in comotion, nor had I practiced any of the moves for the show on her and we ended up getting a red ribbon in showmanship and in the trail class anyway. Pixi did great and two weeks later, Bethany was still lame and so I took Pixi in the Kooskia Days Parade. We were placed behind the IDL truck and in front of the hot rods. At first I didn't think she'd do it because she was nervious and I said to myself,'This parade is just not going to happen,' but when we got down town, Pixi suprised me by going to sleep (or almost) and she actually stood still for pictures. I was excited about that. John Wayne 11/10/2009
That was the year I did John Wayne. You can read his story on the testamonials page. What a job he was. That year was quite eventful 04/08/2009
In May of that year my mare, Bridget, had her second foal. I was fifteen minutes late for the birth but I got to do and watch everything else including video taping it. Also my sister and I went on our very first cattle drive with the Hendren's. I took Bethany, who had appoximatly 10 rides on her, on this hard drive. We had 30 head of easy cows in one pasture but the other had 80 stubborn head of cows that refused to go down the canyon for about an hour or so. With steep canyon walls I was unsure of what to do and to make matters worse there were only 4 good horses out of 6 and only 3 of the 4 good horses could chase cows down. Another thing I was the only rider in front that had a good horse. The next thing I know my horse and I are loping the canyon walls chasing cows down that tried to run off in front and then I also was trying to keep the front from spliting on a horse that had about 10 rides. One thing that was for me, my horse had been raised on steep hills from the time she was born and she knew how to handle cliffs but I was riding her and she wasn't used to that yet but we made it through alive. In June we had another drive taking the cows up to the forest land and then I took Bethany to a McNamee clinic. He had two competitions on Sunday and Bethany won both of them. July came and Tabitha and I decided to enter the Kooskia Days Parade. She took her trusty filly, Rianna, and I took my well trusted filly, Bethany. They came through alive. That pretty well wraps up what we did with the horses that year other than the time Mr. Hendren called in a panic saying his cows over by my place were out on the road and he needed help. I hadn't rode Bethany in a couple months and she did quite well getting the runaways back in their pens. |
